"What We're Watching Wednesdays", Block Party Highlight 2011 Theme Nights
Curve Take Aim at Popular Television Shows, Focus on Kids and Communities with Theme Schedule
03/02/2011 10:29 AM ET
CURVE, Pa. - Following the success of nationally recognized Wacky Wednesday theme nights in 2010 like Livin' La Vida Lunchmeat, Redundancy Night (Redundancy Night), and Bad Idea Night, the Altoona Curve will take a new direction in 2011 and turn their parody skills towards current, popular television shows. In addition, events centered around kids and communities will also highlight the 2011 Theme and Community Night schedule for the defending E.L. Champions.

Lost-LockeIn what's being dubbed "What We're Watching Wednesdays", the Curve will do take-offs of some of today's most popular television shows. The first "What We're Watching Wednesday" will take place on May 4 vs. Akron and lampoon the now retired ABC phenomenon "LOST". The team's working title of "LOST - Locke & Locke" plays off of 2010 Curve pitcher Jeff Locke, who actually was a huge fan of the cult series, and the mysterious character John Locke from the show itself.

LawnStarsAfter attempting to decipher the mysteries of the island, the Curve will try their hand at crime solving on June 8 vs. Erie with "NCIS/CSI: Curve, Pa. - Law & Order SVU" night. Other "What We're Watching Wednesdays" include "How I Met Your Mascot" on June 15 vs. New Britain, "Glenn's Kitchen" (which will place Curve Manager of Concessions Glenn McComas in the role of Chef Gordon Ramsay) on June 29 vs. Reading, "Lawn Stars" (starring Head Groundskeeper Brian Soukup) on August 17 vs. New Hampshire and "Only in Curve, Pa. with Bill the Comic Guy" on August 24 vs. Richmond. That should "Git 'R Done" for the WWWW theme series.

Glenns Kitchen"We've done and seen a lot of 'retro celebrity' and 'salute to' type of events here and in other minor league ballparks," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "We're always looking to try something a little bit different. So, we thought we'd have fun with some current shows not named American Idol or Jersey Shore while making one of our players and several staff members stars for a night."

Fans that have a need for speed will enjoy the NASCAR Night on July 23, which will be held in conjunction with a Jersey-off-the-Back Auction to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Fans will have an opportunity to bid on the race car-themed jerseys during an in-game silent auction with proceeds from the event going to the charity. Winning bidders will receive the jerseys and get them autographed by the players in a post-game ceremony.

Other theme nights include Bark in the Park Night (July 6) and Field of Dreams Day (September 5).

The communities that make their way to Curve, PA will also be recognized throughout the season. Among those already on the schedule for the upcoming campaign include: Latrobe Community Night (June 4), Cresson Community Night (June 15), Tyrone/Bellwood Community Night (June 29), and Cambria County Night (July 24). More communities are expected to be added to the calendar in the coming days such as Bedford, Indiana, and Huntingdon Counties.

Another all-community event that will take place this summer will be Ballpark Block Party 2011 on July 1 to kick off the Independence Day weekend. The event, which takes place on a non-game day, will have live entertainment and a plethora of activities for people of all ages to start their holiday celebrations in a safe, family-friendly environment. Fireworks will cap off the festivities at the end of the evening.

The promotional calendar is also filled with events for kids. The all-new, FREE Curve Kids' Club presented by Galliker's features eight dates with various fun themes for members of the club. In addition, the Curve will host three Youth Baseball Clinics (May 1, May 15, and May 22), two Scout Nights (June 18 and August 6), a Family Sleepover Night (July 9) and two Super Splash Days (July 11 and August 18).
